When I arrived, I filled out consent forms for health insurance (or lack thereof); answered questions along the lines of feeling self-conscious when I smile (my vanity runs in other directions); and at tested that my person was free of liver disease, artificial joints and sinus trouble (my medical woes are too exotic to be included on a standard questionnaire). I’d been aware of a grinding sound in the background and learned that a tooth was being made on the spot. Then the dentist or registered dental assistant sprays a reflective powder onto the tooth, which enables a probe in serted into the mouth to capture the image — that is, what remains of the tooth. The margin, or where the preparation ends, is defined by the computer, then the computer proposes an image of what would complete an ideal tooth for that space.
